The Travelling Kitchen was set up by Sarah and Clare ten years ago. Travelling Kitchen was born out of a recognition that primary school children were not being taught basic practical cooking skills at school. We believe that through celebrating the history and culture of food and  bringing people together to cook and eat in their communities we can be encourage more people to cook good food for themselves, leading to healthier lives and improved well-being.

Sarah started cooking in her local pub in Wales when she was 16. A year spent teaching in Kenya and a career working in overseas development led to an interest in exploring food from around the world. After studying English and then Development Studies, Sarah worked for various development organisations including The British Council, Tree Aid and Motivation.  Sarah has lived in Bristol for over 25 years and loves to cook for her three children and friends and family.

Having trained as a history teacher, Clare taught for 12 years in London and Bristol. As a member of a touring theatre group, Clare led drama workshops in local communities around the south-west. Passionate about the concept of plot to plate, she spends much of her spare time tending her allotment and turning produce into delicious creations. Her love of cooking started when Clare became a vegetarian and was determined to cook anything but nut roasts.
