We’ve been a bit poor at posting updates over the past couple of years, for some obvious reasons. From March 2020 until June 2021 we were unable to do any of our regular schools workshops as schools were closed or weren’t allowing external visitors. Similarly many of the community settings that we work with were also unable to have events. We were able to volunteer our time cooking meals for family food boxes being distributed by two local schools and over ten weeks make salad boxes and snacks to fuel the amazing staff and volunteers at the Covid vaccination clinic at the Greenway Centre in Southmead.

It was great to deliver our first schools cookery workshop in over in a year in June 2021. It was so good to be back amongst children cooking. We’ve been busy this month planning activities for the rest of 2022 and hopefully starting some projects that were put on hold due to the pandemic. We’ve also been looking back at what we did achieve in 2021 since that first June workshop and despite everything are delighted to report that we:

  • Cooked with 648 children from 7 primary schools

  • Cooked with 141 children and adults in free family cooking sessions in the Greenway Centre and The Ranch adventure playground in Southmead and with parents from Hannah More primary school and the women’s group of Aid Box community

  • Cooked 570 hot lunches in the Easter and Christmas holidays for young people participating in holiday sessions at The Ranch adventure playground in Southmead

  • Delivered 3 days of Holiday Activities and Food programme family food sessions for Stroud District Council

  • Collaborated with The Children’s Kitchen to support their work in early years settings and delivering Holiday Activities and Food programme family food sessions in Bristol

  • Helped to deliver the Food Leaders programme co-ordinated by Square Food Foundation and The Children’s Kitchen, supporting cooks in community settings to pass on their skills

We’re hoping for a full year of activities in 2022 and look forward to reporting back here and more frequently on Twitter- @travkitchen and Instagram- travelling.kitchen
