Over the past few months we’ve been involved with a fascinating collaboration with SS Great Britain exploring through food the history of the ship, the passengers that sailed on her and the ports she called at when a pasenger steamship in the mid 19th century. Travelling Kitchen researched historical cook books and traveller accounts of the time to develop a series of recipes from some of the ports including Cape Town, Mumbai, Sevastapol, New York and Marseilles. The team at SS Great Britain then chose three of the recipes, a Coconut and Coriander Chutney from Mumbai, Melon Jam from Cape Town and Borscht from Sevastpol. Visitors to the SS Great Britain this summer will have a chance to try all three recipes on board.
